MARATHON RACE

The event of Athens Marathon. The Authentic is much more than just a race — it’s a journey filled with history, emotion, and athletic passion. The starting line is set in the historic town of Marathon, while the finish line awaits at the iconic Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro). Runners are challenged to cover the 42.195 km of the original course, passing through historic areas of Attica along the way.

The route is known for its gentle yet demanding elevation changes, with the most challenging segment between the 17th and 32nd kilometer, where endurance, strategy, and mental strength truly come into play.

Participants collect their bib numbers and race kits from the OPAP Athens Marathon EXPO, held at the Faliro Olympic Indoor Hall (Tae Kwon Do venue) a few days before the race. The event also provides organized transportation to the starting line in Marathon town, ensuring all runners arrive on time and ready to begin their unforgettable journey.

5KM

The start of the 5km road race COSMOTE TELEKOM will take place at 17:00 at Amalias Avenue –in front of Mpodosaki premises- with a direction towards Syntagma Square. It is the road race that people from all ages choose, in order to be part of the biggest running event in the country.

10KM

On Saturday, lots of runners will be at the start of the OPAP 10km road race once more starting from Amalias Avenue (in front of the entrance of the National Garden) and will finish inside the Panathenaic Stadium. The collection of the Bib Numbers and the race kits for all the runners will take place at the Runner’s Center of the Marathon, inside the Faliro Indoor Hall & Exhibition Centre (former TaeKwonDo venue) at the Faliro Olympic Complex –from Wednesday 5^th until Saturday 8^th of November.

UNIVERSITY NIGHT RUN OPAP

The Universities’ 10km Night Run – OPAP took place for the first time in 2022, during the “Atthens Marathon. The Authentic” with the participation of Universities from all over the world. All the students have the right to participate at the new 5km Universities Night Run, with a valid students’ ID card –that will be requested at the runners’ center in order to receive their Bib Numbers for the race- will have the right to participate.

1.200M KIDS’ RACE COSMOTE TELEKOM

At the Kids’ Race, only students of the 4^th, 5^th and 6^th grade in elementary school for the school year or 2025-2026 will participate –specifically kids that are born in 2014, 2015 & 2016. The start of the 1,2km race will take place at Vassilissis Sofias Ave., near the Parliament Building. The route follows Vassilissis Sofias, Irodou Attikou, towards the Panathenaic Stadium. The finish is at Panathenaic Stadium.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS HELLAS 1.200Μ COSMOTE TELEKOM

Special Olympics Hellas could not be absent from the 42nd Athens Marathon. The Authentic, the biggest running event in the country! The athletes are once again ready to cross the finish line at the Panathenaic Stadium, with volunteers and coaches there to cheer them on.
